Video shows pro kayaker swapping water for sand

When Red Bull were looking for a surprising place to send 22-year-old kayaker Eric Walter to test his kayaking ability, he probably wasn’t expecting to end up in the middle of a desert in Namibia…

The German rider is used to dropping off some of the biggest waterfalls in the world, but ended up switching the water for sandy dunes.

Little did he know, he was in for an experience that money can’t buy! Kayak and paddle in hand, Walter scaled the dunes alongside three world-class paragliders; Tim Alongi, Cyrille Marck and Jean-Baptiste Chandelier, who performed their aerial displays as he raced down on the sand.

According to Walter, you don’t have the same control over your vessel as you do on the water, and you go very, very fast!

Speaking of his experience, he said:

“I was curious to find out how fast I could go and you can actually get quite a lot of speed! I think I went around 60kph. It’s way better to go with paragliders! They helped me to pull the kayak back to the top, thanks to the wind.”

We’re not sure if sand kayaking is a sport which is going to catch on, but it does make for pretty good viewing! If you want to check out the video for yourself, you can do so below:
