Get inspired with National Go Canoeing Week this year

National Go Canoeing Week is coming up, from Saturday May 28 to Saturday June 5, with the hopes to inspire more people to try the sport and get active.

 British Canoeing has been inspired by the Olympics, and offers the chance to get fit without the tedium of the gym. British Canoeing is challenging the nation to paddle as many miles as they can, and keep track with the National Go Canoeing Week website.

 All the miles paddled will contribute toward the target of 30,000 miles collectively, and there will be numerous events and activities around the country to take part in, to help add up the miles.

 If you are not as familiar with canoeing, having a beginner’s session before getting out for real is a handy tip, so you won’t feel the pressure if you go out with a group.

 Not only is canoeing a fun activity, it’s an ideal workout, perfect for building up core strength and arm muscles. For anyone with a previous sporting injury, canoeing is a great way to build up strength and get the heart pumping, without it being too strenuous.

 Go Canoeing development manager, Jenny Spencer, said: “Go Canoeing week aims to get everyone of all abilities onto the water, having fun, clocking their miles and really getting a feel for the sport. It’s a great way to get fit whilst experiencing the beauty of the outdoors.”
